The Australasian Aquaculture Conference 2010 was held in Hobart, Tasmania and was attended by more than 800 delegates from over 40 countries. As part of this prestigious conference, Shake Creations was charged with the responsibility of producing two, high-impact, social events – a stand-up networking function for approximately 700 guests, and a gala dinner for approximately 400 guests.
The Networking Function was given the name “My Island Home”, but given the event was being held in late May, Shake Creations shifted the focus away from the extremely cold temperatures in Hobart and created a tropical island paradise in the middle of Hobart’s iconic City Hall. Guests wore Hawaiian shirts and were entertained amongst the palm trees by musical act, Transit, acrobatic duo, Circus Trick Magic and roving artists in grass skirts. Spectacular tropical-style canapés were distributed throughout the night, with drinks served from the “Island Bar”. The event proved to be a spectacular success for the organisers, with many network contacts made and lots of fun for everyone.
The Gala Dinner was held the night after the Networking Function in Wrest Point’s Tasman Room. Entitled “Into the Blue”, the entire room was themed in blues and whites using a clever combination of draping and lighting, with the theme extending to the tables with simple, yet elegant table centrepieces. The evening was hosted by Andy Muirhead, with music from jazz group, Black Coffee and feature performances from comedian, Gavin Baskerville and acrobatic extraordinaires, Shannon and Malia. The “Into the Blue” Gala Dinner was the perfect contrast to the light-hearted Networking Function the night before, with a distinct grand and spectacular flavour experienced by all present. |
