National Ride To Work Day 2008
National Ride To Work Day 2008

Melbourne's Federation Square was the location for the National Ride To Work Day 2008 Breakfast. Some 6,500 cyclists from all over Melbourne commuted to work via the event on two wheels, enjoying breakfast (provided by Bicycle Victoria and its sponsors) and entertainment across the morning. The event was hosted by Melbourne's own Pete Lazer with entertainment by Soul Sister, whilst the crowd itself became the entertainment when it formed an enormous human bike on the Square. Bike parking was provided around the venue for all the cyclists' bikes, and the RACV Angel provided running repairs to bikes requiring an “angel's touch”.

As the name suggests, National Ride To Work Day was staged around the country, with many first-time cyclists suggesting they'd discovered a new and exciting way to get to work each day. This, of course, is the primary purpose of the event, and it seems to have proven to be an enormous success.
