There are many differing opinions about what makes a great event. Some argue that a great event is an event that showcases spectacular lighting or visual content. Some others say that the sound must be fantastic, whilst some will tell you that the food and the entertainment are the most important factors... So what's the answer?
The truth is there is no simple answer that applies to each and every event. Many questions about the event must be asked before you can even come close to determining that secret ingredient that will make your event stand out from the rest.
So, where do you start? The first question you need to ask is, "What are the desired outcomes?" The answer to this seemingly simple (and often overlooked) question will set you on the right path to finding the right combination of elements to make your event extraordinary and unforgettable. Make an extensive list of all the things you want to achieve from the event - realistic or not. These thoughts will form the foundation of your event, and you'd be amazed (further down the track) how achievable at least some of those unrealistic objectives become.
Next question... Who's coming to the event? This naturally leads to asking yourself what these people have as expectations... Now the picture is starting to become much clearer.
Ultimately you'll find that there is no single element that stands out from the others as the key to a great event... The truth is that it's the combination of a number of elements that makes your event stand out from the crowd.
Then, of course, there are the questions that flow on... What are the specifications for each element? What entertainment do you get? How do you bring it all together? How do you make it happen for the budget? How do you know you've got it right? The list goes on and on, and seems to get more and more intimidating...
Then the answer emerges from the fog... Experience... That's what you need to pull together all the elements for the event, and it's what you want to provide to your guests to ensure they remember your event and talk about it for a long, long time.
